Pick list in db4

Pick list in db4

I have available to use dBase IV 1.0 . I would like to be able to make
a pick list out of a names database to plug into a billing database.

The user should be able to enter a name (or partial) into a memory variable and then the system should search the names database and present a pick list starting with the closest match if the name is not existing. The user should then be able to cursor down to the correct name , hit enter and have that name entered into the memory variable. The system should then return to data entry screen.

I've done this sort of thing in Clipper but can't figure out how to get it done
in db4 1.0

Any help appreciated.

Well if you are using dBASE IV Version 1.0, I first suggest that you upgrade
to a newer version of dBASE IV.  Version 1.0 was known for major bugs, so
many that Ashton-Tate made their next version 1.1 available for free to
anyone that had version 1.0.  Now that Borland bought out Ashton-Tate, I'm
not sure if they kept that deal open, but contact their upgrade order
desk at 800-331-0877 and ask.  The latest version is 2.0, their was a
1.1 and a 1.5 version prior to the newly released 2.0.  In any case, to
answer your question, look in the \DBASE directory for a README.DOC file
which should contain instructions for creating pick lists from a data
entry screen.  Hope this helps.
