Database server and webhosting

Post by Ambrose Ton » Fri, 02 Apr 1999 04:00:00

Hi,

I want to setup a website that could generate high traffic. However,
I do not have the financial backing to setup the complete network
systems including web server and database server.  I am wondering if I
can buy and operate a database server and connect it to a virtual web
host? please email me for any valuable advice.

thanks

Database server and webhosting

Hi there,

What yo you mean by virtual web host?
You can always connect your website and database using an ODBC connection.
But the routers between the website and the database server have to permit
TCP/IP connection from any port on the website server to port 139 on the
database server.

I hope this helps ...

1. FM-server & webhosting

Hi Everyone,

I'm trying to get a package of databases with IWP running under FMserver
5.02. It works fine with FM-pro 5.5 using Web-companion. But was I
misinformed or am I doing something wrong asuming
that FM-server can host these files and share them over the net through http ?
I don't see any plug-in folder ('system' when using NT) with Web-companion
inside it ?
The package was shared over the web using FM-pro 4,1 application but we
want to make sure it runs as an service and we upgraded everything for use
with FM-Pro and server 5.x.

To me it seems a natural thing for a server-package to be able to be the
web-server for my files .
What's the deal ?
