Hi all,

We have somw workstation, each of them use a VB client
program to input data to SQL2000 database, the client use
ADO to connect to database,it works generally OK,but
occasionally returns "[DBMSSOCN]General network
error",please advise what might the problem cause.

Since other network application doesn't affected at the
same time,we think it is not a network problem. After
restart the client program, everything is OK,but all
inputed data gets lost.Does there anything to do with the
perfomance of SQL database system?

Hi,

To see what could be wrong, try to use SQL Profiler or
Performance Monitor.

It is highly possible that an intermittent and momentary network failure of
some sort is causing this problem; I have also found reference to this
problem being fixed by upgrading to Microsoft Data Access Components 2.6 or
later. You can download this from:

http://www.microsoft.com/data.

MDAC 2.6 is required for proper connectivity to SQL Server 2000. Make sure
your workstations are running this version or later.

Hope this helps.

1. Remote Connection Error "General Network Error"?

If anyone has ever run into this error before I would really appreciate the
fix to my problem.

I am creating an application in VB that connects to my remote SQL Server at
the office. In my connection string I'm using a provider of SQLOLEDB with
the DATA SOURCE of my IP address on the server.

This application works fine when connecting on my LAN but remotely via
TCP/IP I get a "General Network Error" of note I also get this error when
using DTS Import wizard using this IP address and senario.

Is my Server's TCP/IP settings in SQL Server configured improperly? Again
any input would really help me out.
