Sure, but can you provide a few details?  such as:
- what version of Ingres are you starting with?
- what sort of application code is involved?  (embedded language/SQL,
  character ABF, windows4GL a.k.a OpenROAD, ???)
- What OS are you currently running the Ingres stuff on?
- are you migrating to Ingres on Windows, or something else?  (if the
answer is "something else", you'll find limited interest here!)

By the way, your direct email bounces, so if you are for real you might
want to use a working reply-to address.

I'd NOT use mysql... the version we evaluated had no row locking...  the
current ver may now..

postgressql is what you want on a linux box...

Gang,

This is good discussion, but we should point out that in the past
we have had this discussion many times.  And when we were being more
detailed and serious, we outlined all the benefits and drawbacks, as
well as the business cases for switching databases.

This poor guy has managers who couldn't give a flying squirrel poop about
the technical merits of anything.  They only understand business value.

We have repeatedly argued in this newsgroup about the REAL costs of
changing database platforms, and staying with Ingres has fared better every
time!

So ... I refer this poor chap to the newsgroup archive:

   http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&group=comp.databas...

I really wanted to quote Roy-Boy, but I couldn't locate the article
in question.   Here is a copy of some drivel I once felt was OK:

   http://groups.google.com/groups?q=lost+opportunity+group:comp.databas...

I hope this helps the original poster make a better decision.

Cheers,

Mikey
