                         PicLan-IP Web Server
                      Early Release Announcement

January 27, 1997

Modular Software is developing a number of Pick hosted products
based on Internet Protocols.  These products include TCP protocol
stacks for native systems, Internet Protocol servers, and Internet
Protocol clients.

The first released product will be a TCP stack for AP/Pro and
Mentor/Pro with an HTTP/1.0 web server.  This product is expected
to be released to early beta test the first or second week of
February.

The current feature set of the web server includes:

  Connectivity Features
    o Support for over 1000 concurrent users.
    o Support for virtual hosting (a single system acting as multiple
      web sites).
    o Support for listens on either standard or user defined TCP
      ports.

  Storage Support
    o Web content can be stored in local Pick files.
    o Web content can be remotely stored in network file space using
      a PicLan DSG.

  Mime Support
    o Mime file type support for html, text, gif, and jpeg are tested.
    o Additional Mime file types are user definable.

  Live Content Support
    o Support for "Hot Pages" where HTML pages can contain Pick BASIC
      code that is executed when the page is referenced.
    o Auto-merging of Pick BASIC result variables into HTML pages.

If you are interested in helping us test this new and exciting
product, the following minimum requirements apply:

  o You must have a non-production or redundant AP/Pro or Mentor/Pro
    system with PicLan version 2.0.0.5 (or later) installed.
  o You must have internet email and WWW client access.
  o You must have at least minimal knowledge of how to setup TCP/IP
    addressing.
  o You must have programming experience in Pick BASIC.
  o You must have basic experience in HTML authoring and/or have
    an HTML authoring tool such as Front Page, Internet Assistant,
    or similar.

The initial early beta release is likely to have very limited
documentation.

General comments regarding this product's ongoing development are
welcome including comments regarding porting directions to non-native
Pick platforms including AP, D3, Universe, Unidata, jBase, etc. on
Unix, Linux, NT, etc.  Please post such comments as replies to this

1. PicLan-IP Web Server - Open Beta

February 12, 1997

The PicLan-IP Web Server initial beta release is now available for
Mentor Pro 4.0-4.1.  The posting for AP/Pro 6.1 should occur late
Thursday 2/13/97.  Other Pick platforms should begin surfacing at the
beginning of next month.

Information about this beta is available on-line at
http://apweb.piclan.com (which is an AP/Pro system running the
software) or is available from Modular Software via email

http://apweb.piclan.com also includes documentation, configuration
information, and programming details.

The beta release is protected by an "activation code" which is
required to start the TCP/IP protocol stacks.  If you would like to
