Comments wanted on Andyne GQL

I evaluating client/server report generation alternatives for
our Ingres shop.  CA is of course touting Andyne's GQL and
OpenROAD as their solution.  It looks like GQL is more of an
ad-hoc query tool than a serious reporting tool --- We'd like
to go with an OO approach, pref. 3-tiered.

We have a DEC Alpha running Digital UNIX w/Ingres 6.4.

So, any comments on Andyne GQL or C/S reporting in general
would be appreciated.

I am surprised that CA will tout GQL in preference to their own Visual
Express. We have used both, and while their are differences, their main
function seems to be ad-hoc queries and reports. However, we do use
Visual Express for serious reporting.

We're using GQL since long on HP-UX.  Although it's not the best
product on the market (in general), it still seems to be the only
reliable cross-platform tool available.  The capability to store
queries and make them avaiable for unexperienced users through a
button is a very important option.  On the other hand, I cannot
compare with Visual Express, and I think OpenROAD should include
printing capabilities in a serious way.
