Good job, Dog!  Glad to see you're

1. HELP - Easy question (almost "hello world")

I am new to SQL Server and trying to get a handle on stored procedures.

I want a procedure to use an input/output parameter to pass a value in, and
then change it to 'OK' when it is done.  This might sound dumb, but I have
to do this as our AS/400 uses this same syntax for calling stored
procedures via ODBC.

Here is what I have:

The stored procedure:

GO

/* DO SOMETHING ELSE HERE ... */

GO

***************

Ok, it is fine when I run it from the SQL Query tool.  I type Test '12345
 ' and it returns this:

---------
OK

(1 row(s) affected)

**************

Now, the final insult, I try calling this from withing VB 4 with the
"SQLBindParameter" and pass in a string containing '12345   ', but VB
doesn't return the modified string.  Our call on the AS/400 (identical)
returns the string in the same slot it was passed in on.

 iRet = SQLBindParameter(lStmnt, 1, SQL_PARAM_INPUT_OUTPUT, SQL_C_CHAR,
SQL_CHAR, Len(sOK), 0, ByVal sOK, ByVal 9, SQL_NTS)
 If iRet <> SQL_SUCCESS And iRet <> SQL_SUCCESS_WITH_INFO Then MsgBox
"Error Binding Parameter..."

 iRet = SQLExecDirect(lStmnt, sSQL, Len(sSQL))

 'The string (sOK) should be 'OK' now, shouldn't it?  It is still '12345
'.

*********************************
Am I missing something?

Thanks!

/Peter
