Looking for old ODBC driver & ODBC question

Post by Aiko Giesken » Sat, 10 Aug 1996 04:00:00

I'm looking for the old ODBC 1.0 drivers for dBase files. Anyone know
where I could find (download) them from?
Or if anyone can help me with the following problem that would solve
matters too

When I put the ODBC 2.0 dBase driver on my system, code that formerly
worked now gives a very strange error (to me)

All I'm doing is:
connecting to a Datasource (no problems)
binding a number of columns (with SQLBindCol, no problems)
prepare a simple SQL statement ( with SQLPrepare, "select * from DB", DB
is a small dBase database, no problems)
execute that statement (with SQLExecute...problem)

I get the error Function Sequence Error (s1010) and I got no clue what's
causing it. The whole section of code didn't give me any problem when
using the ODBC 1.0 driver for dBase files.

Any help is much appreciated

AFAIK, the usual sequence is
SQLConnectXXXX
SQLAllocStmt
SQLPrepare
SQLExecute
SQLBindCol
.
.
.

... i.e. you cannot bind columns until you've executed a query that
returns a result set. From your text it would seem as if you're trying
to bind columns *before* executing the query - that would account for
the function sequence error.

Aiko,

If you would like to try another new (2.1) dbase ODBC driver, you can
download one free from our homepage at the address below.

1. MSAccess ODBC driver & ODBC libraries

Recently I downloaded MDAC to write a database frontend in Borland
C++Builder, but it won't read the library (.lib) files that come with it!
TLIB says something about a bad header or something...
Also, is the MSAcces ODBC driver on the net for free download, or does one
need to have Access? Or is the driver that comes with Acess distributable?
If so, which files do I distribute?

Thanks in advance for your help.
