Can someone tell me how you guys (and gals) are sending and receiving
these file of code. Someone sent me a responce in this newsgroup once and
I thought it was just some screw-up. But since then I have seen some
messages like Doug's on "PAR source code".

Am I missing something, or just dumb?

Thanks much for any guidence

If you see some strange lines that say

--- begin
or
--- cut here
or
--- just about anything followed by lots of strange looking hex characters,
you are the proud recipient of an included document that has been UUE (I
think) encoded.  I do not know what UUE means - except maybe the E is for
encoded.

What you have to do is to decode the UUE stuff back to whatever file it was
originally intended to occupy.  You can do this with several UUE
decoder/encoders, but if you are lazy like I am, then just visit Microsoft
and download one of their versions of the Microsoft Exploreres.  Now, when
I receive a document that has an included encoded document or picture,
etc., I see a paper clip in the upper right hand corner of the text window.
Clicking on that icon lets me view the document/picture/etc and save it to
disk if i desire.

Good Luck,
Larry Hazel

Not dumb, just not a net *.  This is a technique for changing
binary files into text format so they can be handled by e-mail
processors.

You need a program called UUDECODE to convert these files back to
binary (also UUENCODE to create them).  These conversions may be
handled automatically by some news & mail readers, so check your setup
options, online help etc. for anything like these commands.

I'm another "dummy". Is it possible to set up such a UUENCODE program to
work with Navigator Gold 3.0 (which I obviously use)? Any
recommendations...since I'm open to suggestions <smile>?

Thanks in advance.

1. IE 4.0 Vs NN 3.0 (Time in loading classes and etc., issues)

Hi,

I wrote a Java applet which uses JDBC. What the applet does is get some
records from the MS SQL Server.

When I run this applet in NN 3.0.3, the applet is quite fast in loading the
classes, establishing a connection with the JDBC server, executing the query
and populating the results.

The same when run in IE 4.0, lot of time is being taken for the applet to do
all the above operations.

Questions:

1. Is there any problem with my configuration of the IE 4.0.
If yes please inform me the correct way of configuring
2. If not, what is the reason for the delay in loading of classes? And can I
in any way achieve the speed in loading, connecting etc., in IE
3. Where can I get some technical documentation about the performance issues
in IE and NN with respect to Java.

Any information is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Subbu.
