How to display screen properties in VFP6?

Post by Cass Lewa » Tue, 27 May 2003 23:01:40

I would like to change properties in the main screen. I can do it
looking up properties in VFP Language Reference 1500 page manual by
typing e.g. in the command window "_screen.fontsize=10". However, I
would like to see the Properties window with available properties and
choices as I can do with other objects. Right click on main screen does
nothing. Any suggestions willbe appreciated.

How to display screen properties in VFP6?

Cass,
Upgrade to VFP 7.0 or 8.0? There is a Screen Properties window available in them. (Also using IntelliSense just entering _Screen. will bring up your possibilities!) One way to see them in VFP 6.0 (and back), is to go into the De*, and enter _Screen in the watch window - it will show you (most) of the current settings. Another is to use REGEDIT - go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\VisualFoxPro\6.0\ and some of the properties are in Desktop and some in Options. Be very careful about changing things here, and note that any you do make won't (normally) apply until you start VFP up the next time.

Rick,

many thanks. Your advice using de* worked great.

1. Form (screen) in vfp6

I've dabbled in FoxPro for years - first FP1.5? and then FP2, FP2.5DOS,
and FP2.6Windows - and I learned to control Screens (now called Forms)
fairly well.  Now I have VFP6 and it's a whole new ball game - I was
never this lost before.  There are two things I'm unable to do.
1) I'd like to put a save button on a data input form that triggers an
SQL Insert Into DBFName and then moves the focus to the first input
field.  In FP2.5 I'd move the focus with _curobj=objnum(fieldname1) but
the documentation says _curobj and objnum() are both deprecated in VFP6.
How should I do it?
2) I'd like to scatter memvar blank when the form is called so that my
input fields can be memvars rather than fields in the database.  I put
this code in the form's init method but evidently that runs as a
procedure so the memvars all vanish when the init procedure completes.
Where should I do the scatter so that the memvars persist as long as the
form is open.
You may have noticed that my intention is to avoid modifying data in an
open database with append blank etc..  None of the VFP sample
applications does this so I suspect it's not considered good practice
any longer.  But old habits die hard.  Can anyone help me?
