MAX Btrieve availability to MS Access 2, and 97

Post by Dale E. Moor » Sat, 27 Feb 1999 04:00:00

Please let me post a public comment on questions like:

I'm wondering if someone can help me. We are currently using Access 2.0 with
Max and we'll be updating to Access 7. It is my understanding that I'll need
to go to ODBC to now make the connection to Btrieve. Can you tell me what I
need to do ? Where do I get the ODBC driver ? and what the procedure is to
connect...etc...(is there any documentation available on how to do this ?)

My comments:

http://www.pervasive.com supplies an ODBC driver. I suggest you go to
Pervasive.SQL 7 as earlier versions are time consuming to problem solve.
Load the ODBC driver, map your MAX\DAT folder to a drive (say P:) then
Start, Settings, Control Panel, ODBC and create a DataSource Name (say "MAX
P"). Open Access 97 and link to the ODBC DSN MAX P, you'll see all the
tables listed. Pick one and you are good-to-go. The nice thing about the MAX
on P method is that you can re-map drive P: to other MAX data folders and
all your programs work without change. (This is also true with Access 2.)

If you need to run Access 2.0, and Access 7 at the same time, please let me
know. I'm proud to say that I've solved this problem when MAX, their
TIPSters, Pervasive, and Microsoft were not able to.

You will notice that Access 97 in some cases runs orders of magnitude slower
than Access 2. The reverse is also true. I have some suggestions here too.
Just last night I turned a 20 minute report into just 15 seconds with some
tweeking. Please contact me if performance is of any concern to you.

I don't take time to check this news group often, so you might want to send

Good luck,
Dale E. Moore

MAX Btrieve availability to MS Access 2, and 97

Dale,

I sincerely hope you are NOT upgrading to Access 7.
Access 8 is the only patch available that will fix Access 7 bugs.

Thanks Richard for catching my mistake! I meant Access '97 when I said
"Access 2.0, and Access 7 at the same time".

Another MAX user.  Boy, do I pitty you.  How did Kewill ERP (Micro MRP)
treat you in 98 and these past few months.?

1. MS-Access 97 to SQL Server to MS-Access 97

Hi this is a thread from another news group that has not been
answered. Any ideas anyone?

Thank You, Thank You...you hit it right on the money. It seems SQL
import/export converted all my MS-Access memo fields to the SQL ntext
data type. Does SQL Server have a comparable memo field type? If not
how do people get around the memo field requirement? Create text field
large enough for the average requirement?

Thanks Again
