DB2 V6.1 for Linux and ADSM : missing libadsm.a

Post by Marco Piopp » Fri, 09 Mar 2001 03:10:31

Hi!

I installed
      DB2 UDB V6.1 and
TSM (Tivoli Storage Manager backup/archive client) v3.7
for RedHat Linux 6.2.

While trying to backup DB2 database with "use adsm" option, DB2 returns
SQL2071N An error occurred while accessing the shared library
"<instance_home>/sqllib/adsm/libadsm.a". Reason code "1".

DB2 installer creates    <instance_home>/sqllib/adsm     as a links
to      /usr/IBMdb2/V6.1/adsm     but     /usr/IBMdb2/V6.1/adsm
does not exist!

Can anyone help?
Thanks, Marco

I cannot help, but only make it more obscure. If I do locate
libadsm.a, I get nothing; i.e., I do not have it on my machine either.
I do not even get a link like that. locate adsm gets me:

valinux:jdbeyer[~]$ locate adsm
/usr/share/apps/ksirc/icons/madsmiley.gif
/usr/IBMdb2/V6.1/doc/en_US/html/db2d0/adsm.htm
/usr/IBMdb2/V6.1/doc/en_US/html/db2help/adsmmc.htm
/usr/IBMdb2/V6.1/samples/c/db2uext2.cadsm
valinux:jdbeyer[~]$

The only promising one sas adsm.htm, so I looked at that with
Netscape, but that seems to be about this (only enough retained to
give you an idea):

ADSTAR Distributed Storage Manager

When calling the BACKUP and RESTORE commands, you can specify that you
want to use the ADSTAR Distributed Storage Manager (ADSM) product to
manage the database or table space backup. You can use ADSM Client
Version 3.1.x.3 and later with DB2. The following topics provide
additional information:

"Setting up an ADSTAR Distributed Storage Manager Client for
UNIX-Based Platforms"
"Setting up an ADSTAR Distributed Storage Manager Client for Other
Platforms"
"Considerations for Using ADSTAR Distributed Storage Manager".

Perhaps DB2 installer does not create <instance_home>/sqllib/adsm, but
whatever you used to install TSM? Is TSM a new name for ADSTAR? Though
I have never tried to use it, why, if DB2 installer puts in that link,
do I not at least have the link?

ADSM is only supported on DB2 v7.1 for Linux.

I ran into this as well.  As it turns out, you need to install the
Tivoli "API" package in addition to the client.  Should be available
from their support web site for download.

BTW, do NOT be tempted to use the 4.x Tivoli packages.  They will fail
miserably for DB2 backup.  Stick with 3.7.

1. Problem using DBD::DB2 with DB2 V6 for Linux

Hi

I am having a problem when trying to access DB2 database server (running on
a Red Hat Linux 6.1 system) from a Red Hat Linux 6.1 workstation. I have
installed DBI, DBD::DB2, on the workstation as long as the SDK for DB2. When
I try to simply connect to a test database on the DB2 server, I get: the
following error message:

"Can't connect to dbi:DB2:test:: Total Environment allocation failure! (DBD:
Total Environment allocation failure!)."

After reading USENET, I even installed the SDK on the DB2 server box and
compiled the DBD::DB2 on the server to eliminate any network issues from the
problem. However, still no luck.

Any ideas?

Thanks
