Colors--How do I get more colors?

Post by Ken Bea » Wed, 20 Oct 1999 04:00:00

Howdy all...

I am using FMPrp 4.0v1. Is there any way to increase the number of
colors available beyond the 64 that are there? Any simple solutions?
I1ve seen some shareware stuff out there, but I don1t want to pay for
it if I don1t have to.

Thanks,

Ken

Only way is to get FMP 5.0 - it supports full colour palette

Ken,

I don't know how much YOUR time is worth per hour, but mine is worth far
more than the $10 it took to register Mo'Colors by David Livermore. For
that I got shapes, text objects, portals, etc in thousands of colors not
found in Filemaker, arranged in a way that makes picking pleasing
palettes easy.

If you insist on doing it the hard way to save a whole $10, you can
create an object in Photoshop or Illustrator & paste it into a FM
layout. Option-click (Or control click in Windoze) to force FM to index
the color. You'll see the little fill box change to the non-native
color. Any object you draw after that will inherit that new color, until
you click or choose something else.  The color won't appear in the
pulldown palettes, but you can always click on it again. Colors indexed
in this way should draw as quickly as native FM colors, and yes, 5.0
will make all this moot.

1. Getting the color white on toolbar buttons in 256 color mode

Chris,
What you need to do is create a .MSK file - the same name and dimensions as
your .BMP file. It should be Black anywhere you want your colors to be and
White where it can be transparent (by default things act as though there is
an all White .MSK file). You can read more about it in the FPW help file, it
seems this info isn't in the VFP help file, but it still works the same.
