open unrelated file

I'd like a script that will open an unrelated file and go to a specific
layout and record.  How do I go about doing this?

Thanks,
JD

Create a relationship between the two databases.  If they are truly
unrelated, base it upon global fields on each side.  The relationship will
not be "valid", but will work for what you need.  In a script in the first
database, pass whatever information is needed to "go to a specific layout
and record" via the relationship from the first database to the second
database, then execute an external script in the second database that uses
that information to perform the desired functions.

1. SQL temp buffer destroys unrelated files...really?

We have had a catastrophic server failure at our business
software-wise.  Event logging was turned off at night,
and the consultants say that because SQL was configured

megs), it caused the server to start destroying files all
over the hard drive.  Adobe PDFs, Pagemaker, AlphaFIVE
databases, and Excel files that were seemingly unrelated
were not deleted but they had their contents "scrambled"
and are now unusable.  Other files seem to be
unaffected.  Does this explanation hold water to anyone
else out there?  Will SQL configuration problems cause
this kind of failure?

I encouraged the purchase of this Microsoft product for
our company because I was looking for a serious business
product with stability.  Now we are out of business
because of this.  I feel that the purchase of SQL server
was a mistake and I should have gone with something that
worked for me for years:  Unix.
