Filemaker Pro Server V3 and Filemaker Pro V5.5

Post by Rick » Wed, 17 Oct 2001 07:40:47

I recently bought a copy of Filemaker Pro v5.5.  I have databases on
Filemaker Pro Server 3.0.  I can't open these files from the new version.
Any ideas?

Thanks,
Rick

Do you really mean you cannot open them or do you mean FMP5 insists on
updating them to its own format and saving the old one with an old name??
Once you update to FMP5 you cannot go back to FMP3

I cannot open them.  Does FMP Server 3.0 not work with FMP 5.5?

Server 3 does not work with 5.5 clients. You will have to upgrade all,
or nothing.

I think it makes sense in this case - Filemaker will want to rename the old
file - which of cause it cannot do if the files are served by Filemaker
Server. I suspect converting a file will only work when you are opening
directly.

1. PC Filemaker Pro v3 file to Mac Filemaker Pro 2.1

I had the same delema but lost only replacable stuff. Went from MAC FMP 2.0 at
one job to PC FMP 3.0. Didn't recover any thing.
However I didn't think about exporting to yet another program.

If FMP 2.0 can export to excel try that and then try importing the excel file.
