Why did they take away the good old Alias in Paradox?

Why did they take away the good old Alias in Paradox?

I have been using Paradox for Windows since version 1.0 came. I have had
versions 1.0, 4.5 and 5.0 and developed many applications for my own and
others' use. Now I have upgraded to version 9.0 in order to take advantage
of aspects in Windows 95/98 such as long file names etc. But I am
disappointed, because the changes are not all good. Some changes mean that
some good functionality that I liked is taken away.

I use many applications that I have made during all years I have been using
Paradox. In many of them I have table look-up where I use alias for
adressing the tables looked up. It is usual that look-up tables are used by
many different projects and are therefore situated in their own folders, not
in a special project's folder. Now in version 9.0 Corel has taken away the
meaning of alias for table look-up. This means that in stead of alias we
have to give the real path to a file. What is the advandtage of it? This
means that I have to restructure every single table that I have made during
years of activities!! This is really stupid.

I want to know if Corel know what they have done. Is there any way to go
around this problem? Is there an alternative to going through every old
table and restructure it?

Thank you for your replies

1. Where is the good old Alias in Paradox?

I have been using Paradox for Windows since version 1.0 came. I have had

others use. Now I have upgraded to version 9.0 in order to take advantage of
aspects in Windows 95/98 such as long file names etc. But I am a little
disappointed, because the changes are not all good. Some changes mean that
some good functionality that I liked is taken away. To my question:

In old versions, one could use the alias in stead of a directory path both
in table links and program code. One could make an application using alias
names in the code etc and distribute it to other people. They could just put
their files wherever they wanted and change the meaning of the aliases and
run their applications. Now I am trying to make an application for some
company and I don't know where in the computer system they are going to
install some files that I must link to in my application, so a good way is
using the alias. But this doesn't function in ver 9.0. Is this old
functionality taken away in ver 9.0 or is there a new way to perform this
task?
