File name length

File name length

Is there a way in objectpal [WIN 4.5] to find out
the maximum length of a file name in the current
file system.
I'm thinking of the constant like _MAX_FNAME in C
(and _MAX_DIR, _MAX_DRIVE, _MAX_EXT or similar
constants in other versions of C)

I need to make a file name out of a field value that
can be longer then the 8 characters permitted by dos and
windows.
So I wouldn't have to rewrite the code for future versions
of windows.

What problem, exactly? The only problem I am aware of that fits this brief
description is that with Novell networks and long paths with at least one
embedded space. Is that what you are encountering?

If so, the latest update for the BDE (5.01) includes changes that alleviate
this.

If not, a more thorough description of your situation?
