I've just ran into a problem which I've never seen before. I installed
Paradox for Windows 7 on a client's machine (Compaq 5100). When I try
to create a new form, I get an Illegal Operation from Windows, then I
get booted out of Paradox.
I can open tables, create tables, open existing forms (from the sample
directory), create and run queries, but I can't create a new form or
report.
Things I tried:
1) uninstalling Paradox then re-installing
2) running Windows in "SAFE" mode, without the network
3) wanted to try installing on a different machine, but they didn't
have one open.
4) opened an existing form, deleted all the objects and the data model,
then saved it to another folder. I then was able to open this new form
and make changes (hey, it kept me working <g>).
and a few others. The version I'm using is 5.71B.
Two things I've spotted
1) The machine has 64 megs memory. I've never tried running Paradox
with so much memory
2) I minimized Paradox and changed display properties (going from 640
x 480 256 colors to 800 x 600 256 colors so no re-boot need). When I
clicked the Apply button Windows again gave a Illegal Operation and
kicked out Paradox.
This company wants me to rewrite a system from Paradox Dos to Windows
and install Paradox for Windows on all 9 computers, each on is a Compaq
5100.
My insticts are saying a possible memory problem, but the video display
might also be at fault (or a combination of both) Anyone out there ever
have a similar problem??
