Migrating to Universal Server

Migrating to Universal Server

We're running Informix Dynamic Server, version 7.30.UC5-1 on Solaris.
We are considering migrating to Universal Server.  I have two questions
for anyone willing to help: (1) are the disk formats be compatible;
i.e., will I need to perform a logical table reload, or can I bring IUS
up on my existing data spaces, and (2) is there a place on the web where
I can research the usual known migration issues.  Many thanks!

My understanding was that Informix themselves were trying to narrow the gap
between ODS 7.x and US by maintaining the same internal architecture - i.e.
managing data in same page sizes and formats. Doesn't US have different data
types though ?? (i.e. don't you have to have specific blade modules to
access the data ??).

(2) is there a place on the web where
I can research the usual known migration issues.

There is an online migration guite in the Informix Technical Pages on their
web site. This has all the info you need

Sorry I can't be more specific.

: (1) are the disk formats be compatible; i.e., will I need to perform a

My understanding is that the upgrade from 7.3 to F.2K is pretty
much seamless. Of course, YMMV. APW.

DataBlades implement new types and SQL expressions. If you have SQL-092
style tupes/expressions, then the F.2K engine simply handles them using
the code it inherited from 7.3. When you install or create a DataBlade,
then instances of the type you ceate are stored on disk adjacent the
ones you have from SQL-92. And the routines are executed as part of the
  SQL query evaluation.
