We are having problems getting  Delphi 2.0 (or any other 32 bit)
product to run on Win95 using Informix Inet to a 5.0 unix online
server, anyone out there have a solution/suggestion?

Informix has NO SUPPORT FOR WIN95 with regards to I-NET and 32 bit apps.
You can attempt to use ESQLC/I-NET 5.01.TE1 for Windows NT.  It works for
the most part.  The last I heard was end of 2nd qtr 96 for a release of
that I-NET for Win95.  If you try the NT version make sure you do not get
the 7.10.TC1 version of ESQL/I-NET as it does not run at all under 95.

I am told that you need to buy Inet for an NT machine, load it on said
machine, and then copy the Inet files to your Win95 machine.  I am in the
process of attempting this feat.

We have also been working on getting connectivity to Informix from 32 bit
applications and have had little luck even though we have very close relations
with Informix.  It appears that there will be a 32 bit INET.

We did the install of the 32 bit I-Net for Windows NT directly on a Windows 95
machine. That worked fine, so you shouldn't need to install on NT first.
This was not for using Delphi but Cognos Impromptu.

Delphi 2.0 Client/Server won't talk to Informix because Informix *still*
haven't released I-NET for Win95. Borland, I guess, find it difficult to
interface with a product which doesn't exist yet!

We're going to try a 32bit ODBC driver in the meantime.

Remember: Informix are a tools company too...

Cheers,

We have been using Openlink 32-bit drivers, and have had very little
problem.  The 16-bit ones were much faster than using I-Net, and if
Informix had a 32-bit I-Net, they would probably be faster than that.

There are also several other vendors coming out with the two-tiered ODBC
drivers.  They tend to be expensive, but are very fast.

Informix does have a 32-bit I-Net--for Win NT.  Evidently, installing it
on NT and then moving it over to a Win 95 machine works.  Of course I
doubt that Informix will support you if you do this.
