Is there anybody out there with experience on a GS160 Running IDS 7.31 under
TRU64 5.1?

We are preparing to conduct a test, including using OnBAR through Legato,
and would like to be aware of any known caveats / problems on this setup.

Thanks!

1. IDS 9.21.FC4 on Compaq GS160 TRU64 5.1 NUMA performance

I have installed IDS on a Compaq Wildfire GS160 (16 EV67/730MHz 16GB
RAM), and am seeing performance that doesn't seem right.

The comparison I am making is against a Sun E3500 with 4 350MHz CPUs
and 2GB RAM.

The Sun is using raw disks on a Sun Photon array.  The Compaq is using
cooked filesystems on an EMC3930 with a VERY large cache that is fibre
connected.

What is bothering me is this:

When running update statistics, I get about a 3:1 performance
improvement.

However, when creating indexes on our largest table, I see a change
from 7 hours to 5 hours.

When I join our 2 largest tables, I see only marginal speed
differences.

Does anybody else have experience on this hardware?  Could the NUMA
architecture explain the lack of performance improvement?

Thanks in advance!

Bill
