CISAM with INET

IHAC who is trying to implement CISAM (5.01.x) in SCO 3.2.4 NFS environment.

The findings show the performance is unacceptable even with two users using the

system. I think this has got todo with the lockd daemon and we would like to

workaround this by using INET. Does anyone has experience doing this?

I would appreciate very much if you could share with me your experience.

Thanks a lot.

CISAM with INET

If your database files are running on a NFS filesystem, you will
have major performance problems. This is becuase, every lock has to
go thru the lock daemon to the remote system (from which this filesystem
is mounted).

Try makeing the database files reside on a local filesystem (NOT NFS).
Your performance should increase substantially.

1. INET unix -> INET unix

This is probably simple, but I'm simpler...

I've got 2 unix boxes, both with SE/INET running. Both V5.x engines and
4.x tools. I want to have one access a database on the other via the
sqlexec daemons. Hosts & services entries are same on both boxes. Both
show sqlexecd running. I've got root access on both.

How do I do this? For starters, I'll be perfectly happy to get dbaccess on
one connecting to a database on the other.

I can't RTFM because Informix didn't ship me one, in spite of my buying a
r/time and dev licence for INET.

Why do I want to do this? I'm bored and want to break something :)
Actually, I want to play with c-s between Win and unix and seeing as how I
have such faith in Win, I thought I'd make sure my unix boxes were
behaving first. That way, when the Win box won't talk, I'll know where to
look first. (Actually, the Win box should be OK; it's talking tcpip and
running a Progress database in c-s mode, but you never know...I keep
seeing problems with INET-PC here).

Next step is NewEra c-s instead of local. (Anyone else think the NewEra
manuals are really poor for learning? IMO, not a patch on the 4GL User's
Guide. Bits & pieces all over the place. You can't even get a messagebox
to work on a button activate event until you put INCLUDE "ix4gl.4gh" into
the window pre-header!!!! Someone needs to write NewEra for Dummies)
