Informix on Symmetrix 5000 with EMC

Is anyone presently  executing Informix 7.X Online using Symmetrix with EMC?

If so please respond on problems to look out for when setting up for this
environment. Also if you converted to this from NCR, HP or IBM Power Server
720, could you comment on any performance gains or losses that you have noted.

Thanks for your reply!

Informix on Symmetrix 5000 with EMC

Yes! At GA we have a NCR 5100M (SVr4) and EMC configured as RAID-S. Not
yet in full production. A couple of things I can think of:

1) Use a volume manager to strip a virtual disk accross as many SCSI
channels as possible. I have not bench-marked Informix, but a series of
UNIX read scripts I had written tended to perform better the 'wider' the
stripe.

2) Do not use Informix mirring facilities as the EMC already has disk
protection (mirrored or RAID-S)

3) If you are in a transaction processing environment, the EMC mirrored
configuration will give you better write performance (by how much, I
don't know.) We are using the system as a data warehouse so write
penalties are not an issue at this point.

Please keep in touch and compare notes from time to time.
