Companies Team To Provide Industry-Leading Mobile Solutions
For Desktop And Database Applications
LAS VEGAS, NV - (November 13, 1995) - MobileWare Corporation, a
technology leader in mobile networking solutions, and Informix Software
Inc., the leader in parallel processing database technology, today
announced an agreement to provide a mobile architecture that will enable
mobile workers to access vertical client/server applications, (e.g. sales
force automation) and standard LAN-based applications (e.g. E-mail and
fax) through a single wireless communication connection. This agreement
constitutes a key component of Informix's mobile strategy and marks
MobileWare Corporation's debut as an OEM supplier of mobile data access
and communications solutions.
The agreement allows Informix to license MobileWare client
software for integration with Informix database products. As part of the
agreement, Informix has the exclusive right to integrate MobileWare
technology for mobile client/server database access. Informix is also
planning to make an equity investment in MobileWare. Both companies are
committed to on-going joint development to optimize their products for
superior mobile access.
Informix will deliver MobileWare software to customers as part of
a solution to provide remote access to both databases and applications.
MobileWare software will be integrated into the Informix application
development environment to provide a complete mobile toolkit. This
toolkit will allow application developers, system integrators, resellers
and MIS organizations to deliver advanced, reliable and cost-effective
wireless data access solutions to mobile workers. Informix plans to ship
the first release of its mobile product incorporating the MobileWare
technology in the first half of 1996.
"The exclusivity arrangement we've made and the equity position we
are planning with MobileWare illustrates that Informix is serious about
delivering a best-of-breed mobile solution to our customers," said Phil
White, chairman and CEO at Informix. "Companies will need to implement
mobile technology into their IT structure in order to maintain a
competitive edge. We chose MobileWare because they are the best mobile
solutions provider that has the technology to help our customers extend
their IT systems to a wide range of mobile workers."
"The MobileWare solution provides a tremendous added value for
Informix customers, who may now access critical data on corporate
databases via wireless or landline connections from virtually anywhere,"
stated Jack Blount, president and chief executive officer of MobileWare
Corporation. "The alliance with Informix demonstrates MobileWare's strength
as an OEM solutions provider. We are pleased to partner with one of the
industry's leading database vendors to provide comprehensive,
cost-effective and reliable solutions for mobile workers."
According to Janet Constantin of the Yankee Group, both parties
stand to gain from the agreement, as it will enable remote users to
access Informix databases wirelessly for the first time. "MobileWare
Corporation's solution is a perfect complement to the Informix offering.
MobileWare's software leverages existing infrastructures and advanced
technologies. It is optimized for wireless data communications and
ensures reliable transmission," she explained. "Corporations should be
