Using BLOBs (Byte) in VB6 via OLE DB to IDS 7.30

Hi Informixers,

without any previous experience with BLOBs, I'm having trouble starting
a project that uses "byte" type BLOBs with IDS 7.30 as backend,
VB6 as frontend and Informix's OLE DB provider as middleware.

I have a rather simple employee information system using the above
tools that my boss now wants enhanced with pictures. The VB6 and
OLE DB documentation doesn't give me any hints about BLOBs. Does
anybody have experience with this subject and maybe some example
source code to point me in the right direction?

In VB6 DataEnvironment associate Image control with your picture field.

1. Updateble cursor on VB6 - Informix 7.3 via ADO/OLE DB

Hi

I'm trying to upsize an app from access to Informix and I've run into
the following problems:

1st
How do I create an scrollable and updateble cursor in VB6 using ADO via
OLE DB to
a informix 7.3 DB running on Linux?

2nd
When I try the following:

Dim rsTo as new ADODB.Recordset
rsTo.Open "Firms", conIfmx, adOpenForwardOnly, adLockPessimistic,
adCmdTableDirect
'
' Do this a couple times
'
rsTo.AddNew
rsTo!Specials = "some text"
rsTo.Update

after a variable number of updates VB6 crashes with a memory fault
error.

The key to this seems to be that Specials is a text field, thus it is of
variable length, but
can be longer that 255 chars.

Any idea why the OLE DB provider would crash in the prepare call?
