Hi,

We are using Informix 7.31UC7XN in Solaris 2.8.While doing oninit -iv and
while generating Sysmaster database, iam getting the following error.

 11:43:10  listener-thread: err = -951: oserr = 0: errstr = informix:
Incorrect p
assword or user informix is not known on the database server.

User "informix" and group "informix" are very much exist in the system.I
created a dummy file by logging in as informix, the owner & group are
informix only.

What could be the issue here ?

Rajesh

951 error while doing oninit -iv,Urgent...

Post by Anoop Krishna » Sat, 05 May 2001 07:57:17

I got this info from release notes 9.21UC1 on Solaris . Hope this would
help....

Resolution to PTS 118202

The following paragraph belongs after the paragraphs on page 5-22 that describe
the csm-connection-options in "Format of the CSM
Configuration File."

If you want to build the SMI tables when you bring up the database server
(oninit -i), do not specify the p=1 option in the database server
CSM entry in the concsm.cfg file. The oninit process does not have a
password for the informix or root user ID. If you specify the p=1
option in the concsm.cfg file for the database server, you receive the
following error message:

-5013 CSM: cannot obtain credential: authentication error.

To specify that the password is mandatory for the database server CSM when the
SMI tables are not yet built:

1.Do not specify the p=1 option in the concsm.cfg entry.

2.Bring up the database server with the oninit -i command to build the SMI
tables.

   3.Bring down the database server.

4.Specify the p=1 option in the database server CSM entry in the concsm.cfg
file.

5.Start the database server again with the oninit command.

951 error while doing oninit -iv,Urgent...

Post by John Smit » Sat, 05 May 2001 18:23:49

Maybe you are trying to install IDS on partition with nosuid flag.
That can NOT be done because Informix is using suid to start some
server processes with root privilegies.
You have to put at least files with suid flag on the partition with suid
flag.
(When you try to start IDS it has to check your login/password and that
can be done exclusive by root - see /etc/shadow file properties. If you
do not have suid flag on partititon, you are starting IDS like user
Informix,
which can not check password and produces error -951)

1. Old server, New error: Error 951

All,

Just had an error 951 start popping up on one of my machines.  This
machine has been working OK up to now.  Suddenly, none of the users
INCLUDING "informix" can connect to any database.  Other folks use this
system, so I don't know what has been changed.

Besides shooting the users, what should I be looking at?

System:  Solaris 2.7
Hardware: Sun Netra t1-105
Informix 9.2 with ClientSDK 2.10
Other:  SDE 3.0.2.2

sqlhosts and onconfig file is fine.  onstat commands work fine.  It's just
trying to connect to a database that fails with -951.

It's probably something simple, but I'm having a senior moment.

Thanks.
