Best wishes for 2003! May your servers keep
running, and may your end-users not complain
about performance!

This month's ASE quiz question is about the deeper
meaning of the words "Transact-SQL"...

My article "Generating DDL Statements with 'ddlgen'",
as published in the ISUG Technical Journal, is now
available here:

Finally, Sybase has now released the much-used ASE Developer's
Edition also for HP-UX, Solaris, AIX and IRIX.
At $195, it's not free, but that's still a lot cheaper than
a regular license -- and you'll get the software on CD:

"The Complete Sybase ASE Quick Reference Guide" keeps
spreading around the world. Recently, copies have been
spotted in New Caledonia(South Pacific), Cayman Islands(Caribbean)
and Syria(Middle East).

On popular request, this month's ASE quiz question (or rather,
the answer) is a very technical one: which functionality in
an allpages table does not have a direct equivalent in a
datarows/datapages table ?

Various improvements have been made to the popular SQL-to-XML tool.
#temp tables and identity columns are now supported; a bug related to
non-sa_role users is fixed; some other small improvements/fixes were
also made (thanks to Carsten Laszlo for helpful feedback).

My new book "Tips, Tricks & Recipes for Sybase ASE" is
nearing completion. It will be available in July 2003.

"The Complete Sybase ASE Quick Reference Guide" is still
finding its way to ever more ASE DBAs around the world.

South Africa and from Ukraine to Brazil.
