Migrating from 32-bits to 64-bits

Post by JoseGonzale » Tue, 09 Nov 1999 04:00:00

Hi:

We have an ASE 11.5.1 installed in a HP-UX D series (32 bits)
server, with operating system version 10.20. I need to know if it can
run correctly in a HP-UX N series (64 bits) with operating system
version 11.0. If not ?may anybody tell me what ASE version I must use
for the new server? Thanks a lot in advance for any contribution.

Migrating from 32-bits to 64-bits

Jose,

11.5.x is certified to run on HPUX 11.0.  11.5.x is a 32 bit
implementation of course and therefore can not take advatnage of the 64
bit nature of HPUX 11.0, but it will run there without any issues.

Regards,
Eric

Migrating from 32-bits to 64-bits

There is a problem with the asynch driver on HPUX 11.x that
can, in rare circumstances, cause some or all asynch I/O
attempts to fail.  The symptom of this is large numbers of
SDDONE() errors in the ASE errorlog.

There is a patch out that fixes most causes of this: PHKL_18543,
which is what HP calls a "megapatch".

There is a refinement of that patch under testing (may be available
at this point: PHKL_19655)

If you are running of HPUX 11.x, I would advise applying both (or their
future replacements) once they are available from HP.

1. Upgrading from 8.1.5 32 bits to 8.1.6 64 bits

Hello

Is anyone have hints how to upgrading a database from Oracle 8i 8.1.5.
32 bits to 8.1.6. 64 bits. Can I simply install the 8.1.6 program in my
actual 8.1.5 ORACLE_HOME without uninstalling 8.1.5.? If I have to
uninstall 8.1.5 and install 8.1.6 in a new ORACLE_HOME, do I need to run
the migration assistant to upgrade the datafiles of my 8.1.5 database?
This is on a Sun Enterpris 450 running Solaris 2.6.

Thanks
