SQL Trace

SQL Trace

Is there a tool to moniter all SQL commands on a Sybase database or at least
those from one user ?

I'm having problems with a 3rd party application and want to be able to
filter out all commands sent from one user to see exactly  what's happening.
I can't get into the code or session to set traceon. Or is there a way of
setting that centrally for another user ?

We're using the Sybase interface driver not ODBC.

Coming from a Microsoft SQLServer background I'm missing a tool like SQL
Trace.

Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Yes, a couple options are

1) enable auditing and audit the "cmdtext" sent by certain users

2) On ASE 11.5 or higher, use SQL Monitor to monitor the currently running SQL
Batches.
This is described in chapter 4 of the ASE System Administration Guide.

The Zero Impact Sql Monitor will accomplish your requirements plus much
more.  Refer to

1. Turning on SQL tracing in SQL Server

This is probably very elementary, but I'm pretty new to
SQL Server.  I'm also not sure which newsgroup is the
best place for this.

How do I turn on tracing of SQL statements in SQL
Server?  I want to make it so that when I run my
application, I can see the actual SQL statements that are
being executed on the server.

I tried searching for this on msdn, but I couldn't find
it.
