Sybase ASE for Linux and JDBC

Post by Alan Zaitchi » Tue, 03 Nov 1998 04:00:00

Does anyone know if there is a type 4 JDBC driver for the version of
Sybase ASE which one can get for free, for Linux? Searching the Sybase
site I see that "jConnect" is their jdbc driver, but it nowhere
indicates whether this runs on Linux nor whether it is available for
free with the database server itself.
Any information would be most welcome.
Thanks.
Alan

jConnect is not free. They are some type 4 driver out there, try search
FastForward and
WebLogic.

Well, in theory, perhaps it runs on any java platform, on any OS?

Granted that the jConnect type 4 jdbc driver runs anywhere (in theory,
being pure Java) might it not be unable to communicate correctly with
that version of Sybase ASE that runs on Linux? Since they are basically
giving away Sybase ASE for Linux, it would be nice to think that they
are also giving away a jdbc driver for the same. It's just that it
doesn't say so on their site.

jConnect works fine with ASE on any platform using the TCP protocol so
there will be no issues on Linux

Also note that jConnect is free for development and evaulation
purposes.  It only requires a license for use in production.
