cd-rom drive only reads audio cd's

Post by ryan » Thu, 06 Jul 2000 04:00:00

i recently upgraded my ibm amd k6 from w95 to w98.  i played an audio cd on
my computer one day and the next day, it wouldnt read normal cd's like the
ones that have games on them.   when i hit the explore button of my cd drive
with an AOL cd in the drive, it says that the only file is "Track01.cda." my
games do not work either because they require the cd.  i doubt this is a
hardware problem so if there is a way to fix this problem, please let me

you can just post but it would be more convenient for me if you sent an
email

Thanks in advance,

Ryan

As I said when I emailed you, it might be incompatible with windows 98.  We
had the same exact problem with Cd-roms when I was doing hands on training
in Computer Repair class.  The teacher himself was stumped on the issue so
he contacted all types of companies.  He ended up sending the Cd-rom's back
and getting different ones.  I hope this has been in any way helpful.

cd-rom drive only reads audio cd's

It is a typical glitch... especially after installing real audio? real
jukebox?  if you have either of them, chech the setting in them.  If that
doesnt cure your problem and you have them uninstall them.

Still no luck remove the device through device manager and then click
refresh.(Get the latest drivers for your cdrom for this as well.)

Bill

1. CD-ROM drive doesn't automatically play audio CD

Hi there,

If I insert an audio CD it doesn't automatically open CDPlayer and play it.

I can open CDPlayer or DeLuxe CDPlayer manually and it plays fine.
I am also able to play the .wav files by double clicking on them from within
Explorer.

But no auto run of audio CD's

I have auto insert notification checked (data cd's autorun as you would
expect) and have checked TweakUI - both play data & audio cd's are checked.

What have I missed?

I did notice if I try and install the autocd player thingy from TweakUI
Powertools it complains that some mfc.dll or similar is missing.

Thanks in advance.
