NT: ODBC driver is not found in ODBC Data Sources

Post by Yong Qia » Sun, 31 Dec 1899 09:00:00

I installed the Oracle8i Client 8.1.5 and selected ODBC driver in
particular, on two of our NTs.

The problem is that the ODBC Data Source Administrator from
CONTROL panel does not recognize the driver installed -- it is
not in the driver list.

I tried to update the NT to service pack 6. Still the same problem.
I can see the file  SQORA32.DLL in D:/ORAHOME/BIN. But
it just does not appear in the diver list of ODBC Data Source.

I want have a link from NT to the Oracle DB on the Sun server.
I have spent most day today try to figure out why. No Success.
I would be greatly appreciate it if anyone can provide hits or
solution.

Thanks.

Yong

NT: ODBC driver is not found in ODBC Data Sources

I would download the MDAC 2.0 sp2 from Microsofts web site:

http://www.microsoft.com/data/download_20300223.htm

That will give you the necessary ODBC drivers.

NT: ODBC driver is not found in ODBC Data Sources

Yong,

1..
Something must of go wrong with ODBC driver installation.
You need some items in NT registry in order to use this driver.
run Regedit and have a look  at:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBCINST.INI
you should see Oracle ODBC driver...
If not try to reinstall just a ODBC driver.

2..
You do not need a ODBC driver to link two Oracle databases. ( Even if they
are running on two diferent OS. )
Look at command : CREATE DATABASE LINK ...
Oracle database link is using SQL* Net or Net8 to communicate between two
Oracle
databases. ( No ODBC )

The driver is not listed. Re-install yielded same results. Re-installation is
done automatically by Oracle installer. I also downloaded and installed
the ODBC driver from oracle download site, following the installations.
The results are the same.

The problem is we need to access the Oracle DB on SUN from NT, where we
plan to use MS Access/ODBC to connect the database on sun.

Thanks for the help.

1. [ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified

I have a VB 6 (SP5) Application connecting to a SQL Server 7 Database that
is housed on a separate machine.

The machine that is hosting the application has MDAC 2.7 SP1 installed and
is a Windows 2000 Server.

When running the application i'm getting an error message:

ID: -2147467259
Description: [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and
no default driver specified

On my development machine it works fine but it's going to a SQL Server 2000
database...

Here is the connection strings i've tried on the the hosting machine are:

"Provider=MSDASQL;Driver=SQL
Server;Server=ServerName;UID=User;PWD=Password;Database=DatabaseName"

And (this is the one i use on my WinXP machine connection to SQL 2k)

"Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Password=Password;Persist Security Info=True;User
ID=User;Initial Catalog=DatabaseName;Data Source=ServerName"

I haven't been able to find anything of help out on the internet...  and i'm
completely baffeled as to why this error is happening...

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Adam
