Need DBA help with Oracle 8.0.5 and OAS 3.0

Post by Anders Won » Thu, 17 Oct 2002 11:04:32

Hi there,

Recently, our Database and OAS seems not as stable as usual. When
users access our OAS webpage, sometimes they got "REQUEST FAILED". However,
there has no problem with the PL/SQL in OAS, when they retried few click of
"refresh" through the browser. The page is working again. One of my senior
has check the loading through Oracle Enterprise Manager. The processes seems
ok. We couldn't find the problem (may be this is the bugs from Oracle 8.05
and OAS 3.0) at all.

Steps we have done in the parameter file

1. Increased the  db_block_buffers = 550
2. Increased the  processes = 100

Anything we can do...?

If anyone of you has encountered this problem, pls point me some hints.
Thank You in Advance.

Best Regards,
Anders

db_block_buffers= 550? Are you serious? Which block size?
My default buffer is at least 40M, so 40000/db_block_buffers would
make a factor 10 more.
Also: you are aware you are running fully on desupported software?

Isolate the problem, is it OAS or 805.
Check if there are *causualties* in 805 by query on v$system_event,
drill down to v$session_event and v$session_wait. If none - go for OAS error

1. Help on FTP, OAS 3.0, and OAS 3.0 Web Listner

Can someone tell me a way of bypassing a ftp problem that I have.
I have a web page that I like to ftp (upload and replace a web page in a
web directory)
Upon doing so, I get this following message:

          ftp> put right.html
          200 PORT command successful.
450 right.html: Cannot open or remove a file containing a
running program.

It may be a PL/SQL call or Java Scripts embedded in the page, which I
doubt at this moment.
(since I was unable to upload html files that does not have any Java or
PL/SQL scripts embedded.)
Or
it may be the way OAS 3.0 (Oracle Application Server and OAS web
listner) feature that prevent from doing so.

Are they any ways to get around to this.
(Unix File and directory permission are currently set OK and should not
be the cause of problems)

Now I have to kill a Oracle web listner, upload files and then start OAS
web listner , which is somewhat bothersome.

Any help is appreciated

Thanks
