Oracle 7.0.15 Y2K compliance

Oracle 7.0.15 Y2K compliance

Post by Chri » Sun, 31 Dec 1899 09:00:00

Earlier this year, Oracle had made the claim that all versions of
Oracle7 were Y2K compliant.  Lately, they have moved the mark and said
that 7.1 and beyond are compliant (I am talking about COMPLIANCE here,
not SUPPORT.  I know that only 7.3.4 is supported).  As such, it appears
that 7.0.15 and 16 are not Y2K compliant, even though all my testing
uncovered no problems with the RDBMS.  DOes anyone have any addition
details from their experiences.

thanks.

The problems typically are not with the rdbms itself, but with tools such as
exp/imp and sqlload.

I've read the matrix on metalink which lists such problems.  But I still
can't get an answer (from Oracle, from anyone) as to why the bar has
been raised from 7.0.15/16 to 7.1.  There are so few differences between
7.1 and 7.0.15/16.

1. Oracle y2k compliance

There is a white paper at
http://www.oracle.com/year2000/2000/white2000.pdf
that lists Oracle y2k compliant products.  For Oracle7 Enterprise
Edition, the paper states that only 7.3.4 and greater is y2k compliant.

Question:  Is this recent news?  As recently as 2 months ago, I was
told by an Oracle rep that all version of 7.3 were y2k compliant.
What is broken in 7.3.3?  Tech support couldn't tell me.
Is there anyone who can shed some light on this?
