What's the difference between backup control file (ALTER DATABASE BACKUP
CONTROLFILE etc) and normal control file (OS backup)?

It's a online backup, you don't need to shutdown your database for this.

Hi Martin,

"ALTER DATABASE BACKUP CONTROLFILE TO TRACE;" creates a template (in the
foledr indentified by "user_dump_dest") to recreate lost controlfiles
from server manager.
