OS Authentication on NT failing

Post by mandeep2.. » Sun, 31 Dec 1899 09:00:00

Hi ,
I did all required after reading from manula.
For setting up OS Authentication on NT :-
Shutdown the instance
set remote_login_passwordfile = NONE
created an NT group on srver where oracle is installes named as
ORA_DBA. Added 1 NT user as member of that group.
DID CONNECT / AS SYSDBA and got this error
ORA-01031 : insufficient privileges
What else is required.

OS Authentication on NT failing

The way I did it was:
create a global group called Ora_dba_users, of which Administrator is a
member
Then I created a local group called ora_dba of which ora_dba_users is a
member.

Wait for NT's replication to kick in before trying to connect to server
manager.

1. Oracle 8.0.4 and Windows NT OS Authentication

Had set up a bunch of "external" users on my production database.  Used the
default OS prefix of OPS$ on each one and set the authentication to
"external".  This worked fine and dandy on the first few NT Workstations we
installed.  Then, we added a bunch more workstations.  Automatic
authentication just won't work on them!

Example:

1)  I log in to the domain from one of the original Windows NT Workstations.
The userid is "myself", which I have set up in Oracle as OPS$MYSELF.  Next,
I start up my application which connects to Oracle without specifying any
user-id or password.  Because of Automatic Operating System Authentication,
my application is able to connect successfully.

2)  I now log in the same exact way from one of the new Windows NT
Workstations.  I repeat everything above, but now the application tells me
that the connection failed!

It seems to depend on the particular workstation, not the userid.  Can
anybody shed some light on this problem?  TIA
