Description:   I have been asked by a leading investment management firm to identify
ideally regionally local Lead Solaris/UNIX Senior Oracle Database
Administrator / Manager candidates with at least seven years+ as an
UNIX / Oracle DBA with strong PL/SQL programming skills, SQL tuning
and experience managing a DBA team, providing estimates and project
planning experience for an exciting career opportunity in the Boston,
Massachusetts area. (Regionally local candidates preferred.  No
expenses available for the first interview, all interviews after the
first will be fully paid by the company along with some relocation
expenses available (the first interview expenses will be reimbursed

The selected ideally regionally local Lead Solaris/UNIX Senior Oracle
DBA / Manager candidate will support Enterprise Systems.  The
application team utilizes a centralized DBA and development team to
support its ongoing development initiatives and provide day-to-day
system support.  The selected Senior Lead Oracle Database
Administrator will manage a DBA team that provides support to an
application development team and meet regularly with project managers
and development teams and their management to provide resource
allocation plans, estimate database projects and serve as a point of
contact for critical system support.  In addition to these management
responsibilities, this will be a "hands on position".  The lead DBA
will participate in development efforts and mentor the development
staff in the "best practices" of Oracle development.  This position
will also provide input and assistance to Production Support Database
Administrators.  24x7x365 support, will work with developers to figure
out if more resources are needed, delay certain projects, etc.  They
will be doing sizing of the tables, creation of tables, schema
objects.  Project Planning and Handling requests.
It is estimated that this is a 2/5ths Management; 3/5ths hands on
technology opportunity.

Initially lead 2 DBA's and that will grow to 3 or 4.  There are
currently 10 people on the team.  You will be supporting development,
production and testing environments and will be involved with
moving databases into production.

Qualified ideally regionally local Lead Solaris/UNIX Senior Oracle DBA
/ Manager candidates will have the following keys to the opportunity:

1.  Hands-on Senior Oracle DBA - must know how to do physical design
of a database and be up to date on 9i features.
2.  Leadership experience mentoring more junior DBA's and allocating
resources.  Must have experience managing multiple projects.  There
are a few dozen projects going on at any given time.  You do not have
to have experience hiring and doing reviews as long as you have the
ability to evolve into that role.  Initially, the position will be 40%
leadership/management and 60% hands-on technical.  The management
percentage will increase over time.  They will look at candidates that
have led/managed in the past and are now strictly hands-on as long as
they are interested in working in a combined function.
3.  PL/SQL programming skills - may write some PL/SQL triggers and
packages and will look at PL/SQL code, but will not be doing heavy
PL/SQL coding.
4.  SQL tuning skills.
5.  Financial Services is a strong plus.

Additionally the ideal candidate will be a currently a very hands-on
DBA Manager, however, the candidate could be a Senior DBA with the
mindset of doing administrative/managerial functions.  

Areas that stand out on a resume will include;  mentoring, leading a
team of 3 DBA's, project planning, SQL tuning, Senior DBA related
activities.

Specific Requirements:
-Minimum 7 years experience as an Oracle Database Administrator
  supporting enterprise critical production databases on UNIX
-Previous management experience
-Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
-Strong Client Focus
-Strong Leadership skills
-Proven Resource and Project planning experience across multiple
simultaneous initiatives
-Strong PL/SQL programming skills
-SQL tuning experience
-Experience managing a DBA team, providing estimates and project
  planning
-Experience supporting Applications Development teams working on
  multiple development projects
-Experience supporting Oracle development and reporting tools such as:
  Oracle Developer, Oracle Forms and Oracle Reports
-Bachelors degree in Computer Science or a related discipline

Optional Job Requirements
-Programming experience with any of the following: Perl or C++ or Java
-MS SQL Server / MSSQL experience
-Oracle Advanced Replication
-Oracle Advanced Queuing
-Financial Services Industry end-user or vendor experience
