OAS 9i installation problems on Red Hat Linux 7

Post by John Smit » Thu, 15 Feb 2001 03:48:35

Every time I run the "./runInstaller" I keep getting an error that the Java
Runtime Environment can not be found at either "p/bin/jre" or in certain
cases "/bin/jre." I have installed the latest version of both Sun JDK as
well as JRE v1.3. They were put into the "/usr/java/jdk1.3/" and
"/usr/java/jre1.3/" folders KDE v2.0 Package Manager. I know that the
"oracle" user account has the correct access writes to these directories.
The user accounts/groups and the environment variables have also been setup.
I don't know what I have missed...any help/guidance would be appreciated.
Also, does an Oracle database have to be installed on this machine or is it
possible to set it up so that it can act as a standalone app
server...passing requests via SQL net connection to dedicated Oracle
database servers?
TIA

OAS 9i installation problems on Red Hat Linux 7

RedHat 7 included an experimental gclib, hence Oracle's runInstaller simply
won't work correctly-- you either need to patch the gclib or better,
downgrade to Redhat 6.2. You do not have to install Oracle DBMS on that
machine, OAS9i is a glorified version of Apache. For development purposes,
it may be easier to do so. Also, OAS is still using Jserv, rather than
Tomcat.

Good luck,

Malcolm

1. Oracle 8.0.5 installation problem on Linux Red Hat 5.2 - ORATAB.SH

I'm trying to install Oracle 8.0.5 on  Red Hat 5.2 system. I'm pretty
new to the Linux world and am following the instructions found at
http://jordan.fortwayne.com/oracle/rh5x.html. I've setup all the
partitions, created the groups dba and oper, and added the oracle
user. I've done a CHMOD 777 on the CDROM mount point. Now I'm at the
point when it's time to run the oratrab.sh script. I change
directories to orainst. I set the ORACLE_OWNER variable by entering:

ORACLE_OWNER=oracle; export ORACLE_OWNER

Then I run the following:

sh oratab.sh

The following is the error I get:

:command not found
:command not found
:command not found
:command not found
:command not found
:command not found
:command not found
'ratab.sh: syntax error near unexpected token 'in
'ratab.sh: oratab.sh: line 29: 'case ${N}$C in

Any ideas???

Thanks in advance.
