Installer Fatal Error on NT 4.0 TSE

Installer Fatal Error on NT 4.0 TSE

Post by rock_co.. » Sun, 31 Dec 1899 09:00:00

Hi,

I tried to install Oracle 8.1.5 on NT 4.0 sp5 TSE (Terminal Server
Edition) and got a fatal error about not being able to save installed
the components.

I rebooted and noticed that the installation was a partial one, as
expected. I tried to re-install, but that to ended in fatal errors.

I tried to un-install, but that to failed.

How do I start over ?

Thanks,
Rock.

Installer Fatal Error on NT 4.0 TSE

We had to solve this the hard way.

It appears that the Oracle Installer could not write a dozen or so MB to
the primary partition because the NT guy made the partition size 2GB and
made the swap (dynamic virtual memory page file) also 2GB ! So when
Oracle Installer loaded down the system, the swap file grew to fill the
entire partition. That caused the installer fatal error.

After that failure, the NT guy, rebuilt the whole server and lastly (at
my request) put the 2GB swap file on the 25 GB D partition, Oracle 8i
installed just fine.
