Hi,

What is the best command that would force a new user to change his/her
password after the first log in?

Thanks

Alter user blah password expire

BUT... all that does is set up an error condition (the condition being that
the password has expired).  It's up to the application to trap that error
and prompt for a change of password.  Sql*Plus, for example, *can* trap the
error and respond appropriately.  Server Manager can't, and will simply tell
the user to 'bog off, your password's expired' (or words to that effect).

that would depend on which version of oracle is in use.  in 8.1.7, one can
set a number of options for user management similar to what one would do at
the OS level, whichi includes password expiration.  if i recall correctly,
the section on "user management" in the DBA guide discusses the options
available.

prior to 8i, one has to write code to do the same thing, or use OS features.

1. When does First active log num changes?

Running V7 FP5 on AIX....

Doesn't the "First active log" num changes after an online backup?

Reading thru the docs...I had the impression that after the backup (online)
where logretain=capture (but the userexit=no), the active log gets
truncated when the backup ends (and I can see that with the change
in logfilsiz) and so the "First active log" number should change
when viewed via get db cfg...right?

I don't see it changing...

  - after the backup
  - adding a few records to a database (not enough to fill the logfile)
  - issuing an 'archive log for db' (even though it seems that with this
the active log does get truncated and a new logfile gets created, but
get db cfg still shows the same 'First active log'

If I need to read the books again can some one point me to the right
one and the page number if possible.
