Salary: 120K + Bonus Assist in the design & development of product repository &
other databases for both internal & external products & system, which support
the various product lines & application development areas of TFIR & other
Thomson Vertical Business Units. Will be also responsible for data-feeds &
custom feeds. Provide direct technical support once the systems are in
production, the ongoing maintenance & operation of these systems & related
technology.
Job Functions: Work w/ other technical staff & users to perform the business
analysis required to properly defining the business problem & the requirements
that the system must address. Assist in the technical design of the system
including technology selection, SW component definition & interfaces, &
production configuration. Develop SW using designated technology. This position
will involve a variety of technologies including UNIX shell scripting, C & a
particular emphasis on Oracle related tools & techniques such as Forms,
Reports, PL/SQL, triggers, & stored procedures. Perform adequate testing of SW
to insure proper & reliable functioning. Assist in the production
implementation of new systems. This includes the development of reasonable
documentation, user training, & the installation of a sound production
configuration. Support enhancement & maintenance of systems in production
including problem determination & performance tuning. Learn new technologies,
where necessary, which are required to properly perform the above functions in
the existing TFIR technical environment. This will focus on Microsoft & Oracle
related tools & technology & also Java if necessary.

Satisfaction among the Database Users the technical development & support we
are providing is intended to assist the staff in the collection & maintenance
of the TFIR database & the dissemination of this data to product. We therefore
need to develop systems in close cooperation w/ these users that deliver the
functionality & performance they need on a reliable schedule w/ minimum
interruption to their ongoing production work. Completion of assignments in a
reasonable amount of time this goes beyond simply working fast or hard. As w/
many small companies & depts., we have aggressive schedules for the development
of new technical support. In such an environment, it is essential that everyone
attempt to maximize their productivity by clearly understanding the business
problem, making appropriate technical decisions, & critically evaluating their
activities & progress at every step of the way. Technical competence
expertise/familiarity w/ the features of the tools & technology in use & the
proper application of this technology to the business problem at hand.
Minimum Requirements: Should have a minimum of BS in CS/IS or a similar degree
Should have at least 5 to 7 yrs. exp. In Oracle & PL/SQL 2-3 yrs. Managerial
exp. Excellent written & *communication skills Proj. Mgmt. Exp. Financial
industry knowledge a + Ability to work in a fast-paced environment Experience
in Database design & CASE Tools.
