Description: The Advisory/Sr DBA will be responsible for all application databases and database management systems for both OLTP and OLAP systems as well as develop and deploy processes for providing application support across the enterprise. This person will be seen as a subject matter expert and will provide guidance to other DBAs as well as make recommendations to the Sr. Mgr and Director to ensure effective development, implementation, and maintenance of all application databases.
Description of Job Duties:
Develops policies and procedures designed to ensure the integrity of the database environment.
Determines, implements, and enhances standards on database security.
Is educated on database concepts and efficient access techniques, ability to analyze and resolve all problems pertaining to all databases.
Ensures effective application database and database management system performance by monitoring and when appropriate, implement efficiency improvements.
Ensures effective application database and database management system recovery through the development and maintenance of backup and recovery procedures.
Experienced in EDW and Shareplex for our data warehouse and reporting systems.
Experienced in cloning and patching as well as database and application upgrades.
Minimum Skills and Education Requirements:
Ten plus years IT experience, five plus years in database administration and Oracle Application support.
Significant breadth and depth of experience with relational database platforms (Oracle, SQL Server, etc)
Strong process background
Extensive practical experience with database infrastructure operations, including capacity planning, security, data availability, clustering, upgrades, backup/restore, EDW, Shareplex and performance tuning
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build consensus in situations where opinions and levels of understanding can be widely diverse
Thorough understanding of UNIX, AIX and Windows operating system administration, as it relates to database administration
Proactive and pragmatic approach to continual process improvement
Excellent *and written skills with the proven ability to express complex ideas in a clear, concise and simple manner
Responds well to a pressured environment and can push back to enforce the documented standards
Bachelors degree in Computer Science or Equivalent work experience.
