PREPARATORY COMMISSION FOR THE COMPREHENSIVE NUCLEAR-TEST-BAN TREATY
ORGANIZATION

The Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty
with its Headquarters in Vienna is the international organization
setting up the global verification system foreseen under the
Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), which is the Treaty
banning any nuclear weapon test explosion or any other nuclear
explosion.  The Treaty provides for a global verification regime,
including a network of 321 stations worldwide, a communications system,
an international data centre and on-site inspections to monitor
compliance.
We seek to recruit a highly a qualified candidate for the following
position:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the supervision of the Chief, Infrastructure and Communications
Section, to: Make recommendations for the purchase of appropriate
contracts for operating system maintenance services; draft requests for
proposals to provide operating systems and support to the IDC, and
evaluate proposals in response to the requests; establish criteria for
measuring computer operating system performance, and provide regular
reports to the Infrastructure Operations Section Head on system
performance relative to these criteria; define and document the
configuration of operating systems for all computers in the IDC, and to
update the documentation as changes in the operating system
configuration are made to conform with the requirements of the IDC or to
update the configuration to new releases from operating system
licensers; diagnose the cause for interruptions or other problems in
computer services and, as necessary, to reconfigure operating systems or
work with service contractors to implement alternate mechanisms, to
restore the standard operating system configurations as quickly as
possible, and to keep the Infrastructure Operations Section Head
informed of the status repairs.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Advanced university degree in computer science or a related field;  at
least seven years experience in installing, configuring and maintaining
operating systems, including system administration for a network of 20
or more computers running UNIX, installing or maintaining computer
hardware, especially Sun Microsystems computers, maintaining LAN
equipment, especially Fast Ethernet; fluency in English and a good
knowledge of at least one other of the official languages of the CTBTO
Preparatory Commission.  Excellent communication skills in English
essential.

REMUNERATION/CONTRACT:
Depending on professional background and experience, indicative annual
net base salary (inclusive of a variable element for post adjustment)
from US$ 68,441.- (without dependants) and US$ 73,517.- (with
dependants), subject to deductions of contributions to the CTBTO
Provident Fund and Health Insurance Scheme.  Additional benefits
include, when applicable, dependency allowance, education grant for
children, rental subsidy, six weeks vacation per year, home leave travel
every two years.  Initial contract for fixed-term of three years.
