Seeking Advice on Learning SQL Plus and PL/SQL

Post by spinm.. » Sun, 20 Sep 1998 04:00:00

Hi All

I'm a newbee, trying to learn SQL Plus then later PL/SQL.  I've
purchased some reference books however they're only reference.  I'm
trying to find out if there are any books or tutorials you can
recommend that provides the following:

1.  A sample Database
2.  Problems in which you actually have to write the queries and
examples of the queries to check your work against.

Any advice/direction is greatly appreciated

Thanks
Les

I recommend the book "Oracle Database Construction Kit" by  John
Palinski, published by QUE Corporation. Great tutorial, lots of examples
with solutions, shows you step by step how to build a sample database.
You will need a copy of Personal Oracle 7 or 8 to run the examples from
the CD.
Hope that helps,
Levy

Hello, I am a recently laid off MS SQL DBA of five years, and I am planning to
learn Oracle to expand my DBA skills and marketability. If anyone has done
this, I would like to have your advice.

1)How difficult is it to learn Oracle?

2)How different is Oracle PL/SQL from T-SQL?

3)Was learning Oracle worth your investment in time and money?

4)How much will learning Oracle improve my marketability as a DBA?

THanks
