Help wanted in designing an interface for VFp database

Have you considered ODBC?  This is MS's standard interface.  They have
others but this seems to be the one I keep hearing about.  See
http://www.developer.com for Java's JDBC interface to ODBC.

By the way, check out  http://www.svis.com/emperors.emporium.  This is
a Java site.  You can buy your sweetheart a Hawaiian dress for a reasonable
price, and you'll be a hero.

1. Interface design advice wanted

I am in the process of developing a Bill of Materials
database application. I plan on using VB as much as
possible. Given a typical database structure like ...

Component,Quantity,UsedOn
parta,1,assemblya
partb,5,assemblya
etc.

I would like to create an interface similar to the
one used in file manager or MS mail, where you have
indentured folders on one side and a list of contents
on the other.  Each folder would represent groups of
records keyed to that folder.

Now the questions!

1. Anyone done anything similar with VB?

2. Are there any VBX/OCX controls around that provide
that type of framework?

3. How about some calls to the API or common DLLs?

4. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
