Best method to open/edit dBase files?

Post by Jerry Cookse » Mon, 02 Nov 1998 04:00:00

I've been programming for years, but I have never seen anything like the
trouble I have to go through to open and edit dBase files.  And searching is
next to impossible!  Is there an easier way to do this??  Please provide me
with sample code for opening, searching, and making changes/additions to a
dBase file.  Thanks in advance.

You can attach it in a Jet database (like Access) and open it using
OpenDatabase and OpenRecordset / or / see DAO References by typing dBAse.
dBASE Initialization Settings

From DAO help, here what you get:
The Jet\3.5\Engines\Xbase folder includes initialization settings for the
Msxbse35.dll driver, used for access to external dBASE data sources. Typical
settings for the entries in this folder are shown in the following example.

win32=<pathname>\MSXBSE35.dll
NetworkAccess=On
PageTimeout=600
INFPath=C:\DBASE\SYSTEM
CollatingSequence=ASCII
DataCodePage=OEM
Deleted=On
Century=Off
Date=MDY
Mark=47
Exact=Off
