Connection seems to lock

Post by Mike Blanto » Wed, 19 May 1999 04:00:00

Here's the situation:
We have an online store that uses Commerce Server and SQL Server 7.0.  All
of the pages load fine.  All of a sudden, none of the SQL queries return any
data (i.e., no products available, even though there are hundreds of
products in the database.  The only way to fix is it by actually rebooting
the web server machine.  Has anyone experienced this?

Hello:
We also experience the same situation. I use the IIS web server, SQL
7.0 and ASP+VB COM object to establish a web site. Sometimes when we
query somthing from the web(through ODBC DSN by ADO object), there is
an  error displayed in the browser. I found it also can be fixed after
reboothing the web server services. But we don't solve the problem
yet, so if you now has the solution, please tell us. Thank you very
much.

1. LOCK MODE WAIT doesn't seem to work in SE

I was surprised to find that, under SE, if a table is locked and I attempt
to read it having executed a SET LOCK MODE TO WAIT, the read aborts on
error -242/ -113, rather than waiting for the lock to clear. I've
demonstrated this using two sessions of dbaccess, both with versions 5
and 7. (It all worked as expected when I tried it under my IDS system.)

It is giving serious problems to a client of mine whose application seems
to acquire numerous table-level locks of short duration. Programs are
bombing out on lock errors all over the place and I cannot work round the
problem with SET LOCK MODE. The errors start to come thick and fast when
more than 80 users log on.

Can anyone shed some light on what is going on please?
