Log shows "SSL Security Error"
Try installing without TCP/IP Sockets
ie; disable "TCP/IP Sockets" option for Network libraries during
installation.
and see if it works.

There is an entry on 11/8 in this newsgroup with this exact "SSL error"
which has the Subject entitled:
"cnfgsvr.exe fails during setup with SSL Security errors".  The solution was
to uninstall the Certificate Authority.

SQL installation error

Post by Rav » Fri, 17 Nov 2000 10:24:23

Hi Matt!

   It is a known issue for SQL 2000 on Windows 2000.
The problem pertains to Certificate services on your
Windows 2000 box.

   Steps to resolve the problem are very simple.

   Make sure you do one of the following, as these
   pertain to different cases that have come in, to
   this point:

Route #1:
=========
   1) Click on Start, Run... MMC

   2) Console, Add/Remove Snap-In

   3) Add, Certificates, Add, Computer Account,
      Local Computer, Finish, Close, OK

   If this doesn't work, you may need to reinstall MMC
   and try it again.

Route #2:
=========

   1) Reboot the machine, if the above fails, as it might
      because the MDAC files that are required for the
      installation of SQL 2000, are in use.

Route #3:
=========
   The installation of SQL 2000 could fail if the drive to
   which sql server is being installed does not have the
   SYSTEM Account with Full Permissions.

   Resolution:

   -----------

   1. Right click on the drive and choose properties

   2. choose Security --> Permissions

   3. Add the SYSTEM Account with Full Permissions to the
      partition, on which SQL will be installed

   4. Then perform a clean uninstall and reboot the machine

   That should help you cross the border

Route #4:
=========
   The problem could be because your NTFS permissions are
   not set right.

   1. Check to make sure that your NTFS permission on the
      drive, on which you are trying to install SQL Server
      is set to FULL CONTROL.
   2. Give local administrator -> full control,
                 Everyone -> Full Control,
                 and SYSTEM -> full control

   3. Make sure that the 'Replace permissions on
      subdirectories' is checked.

   4. Basically, as long as the NT account that installs has
      full control in the root directory and all
      subdirectories, it should work

   5. Installation should now go through successfully

Actually, one of these methods suggested should help you
resolve the problem. Make sure that the account that
the setup is run with has FULL CONTROL on the partitions
on the system, also make sure that the user who is
trying to run the install is the SYSADMIN, on the box.

I tried all of the following steps with no success,  after removing
certificate services on the machine SQL installed fine. I have not yet tried
reinstalling certificate services.

I will go ahead and close the case for now, as the installation of SQL
Server 2000 after removing the certificate services, went through fine.

Thanks!

Hi all,

I encountered the following error during the installation of SQL 2000

Is there any way for me to avoid this error and obtain a successful
