subscribing to os390 DB2

Post by Justin Abbot » Sat, 15 Mar 2003 20:04:30

Hi folks,

I would like to set up a read-only subscription to an
OS390 DB2 database.

a) Can I do this without purchasing 3rd tools?
I tried right click on 'Replication' in enterprise manager
and choosing 'Configure Publishing, Subscribers etc' but I
can only use sql servers as publishers of the data.

b) If not, what is a recommended 3rd party tool for doing
this.

If I cannot set this up the alternative will be to run a
dts job using a linked server to the mainframe every 5
minutes. Not ideal compared to replication if replication
is possible.

Thanks in advance

regards

Yes you can do this.  Install the DB2 drivers on the SQL Servers.  Setup a
publication.  When you are asked what kind of subscribers you will have,
select the last option "Heterogeneous".  This will allow you to create a
push subscription to your DB2 server.

Are you trying to replicate MS SQL data or DB2 data? In other words,
what system is the publisher?

1. Developing IBMVA JDBC with NT DB2 driver to run on OS390 DB2 driver

Developing IBMVA JDBC with NT DB2 driver to run on OS390 DB2 driver

We are developing a IBM VA Java Enterprise V2 NT client app.
to use JDBC with an OS390 DB2 server.

What is the DB2 JDBC server daemon on the OS390?
Is it the same as on NT (com.ibm.db2.net.db2driver)?

If we develop using a JDBC driver with DB2 on the NT client,
will it work for an OS390 DB2 server driver in production?
Are there any portability issues?
