I'm currently reading O'Reilly's Transact SQL programming, however I need a
little more than book knowledge and would like some hands on. Does anyone
have any ideas for a project that I could cut my teeth on? I can store data
and create tables however it the more complex stuff that I really need to
work with and get the "A ha" moment from. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Check out this Ben-Gan guy on the ng.
He's a real sql mench.You should also check
out the book he co-authored.
Advanced Transact-SQL for SQL Server 2000.

okay, if its the T-SQL puzzles you are looking for then you can try with
Joe Celko's Book for the same.Try some samples at

Also try out Guru's guide to T-sql programming by Ken Henderson ...should
give you a headstart.

FYI...creating and storing data may seem easy for you now but in the long
run
its your database design which counts a lot.You can modify the sql query
logic
at any point but to revert back and check the basic design is one hell of a
job!

Thanks for the site, thats the thing I was looking for. As for developing the database I know the planning it important, and is where a lot of mistakes are made I'm sure. I really want to learn how to do it all properly but I'm sure there is a lot more to that than what I know about. Thanks for the info...

Just for that I stuck another pin in oj doll!!!!!!!!!!!hehehe
